The cover is an original photo taken by my cover artist,
John A. Parker. The photo was shot on the Natchez Trace
Parkway, where the book takes place. The boy on the left portrays Kit, the
200-year-old postal rider ghost and the boy in the blue hoodie portrays David,
the main character.
Blurb for The
Devil’s Backbone (for readers ages 9 & up):
David Baxter takes the blame for the
graffiti on the school gym doors to keep his friend out of trouble and earns a
three-day suspension. His dad, the juvenile judge, forces him to go on a
roadtrip to redemption on the Natchez Trace Parkway. What his dad doesn’t know
is that David meets a ghost carrying the last letter of Meriwether Lewis - the
piece of evidence that may solve the 200-year-old mystery of Lewis’s death.
Thanks to the ghost, David just might figure out how to relate to his dad and
forgive his wayward mom.
I love the cover and I hope you do, too. The book will be
available next month. Stay tuned for more info.

Love! And I know just the moment in the story this is depicting!
Thank you Barbara! And yes, you do. :-)
Very cool picture. Makes me curious about the book. :) I'd definitely flip it over to read the back cover blurb and then I'd take it home. I'd pay first of course. :)
Awesome job, Rae Ann!
Thank you Kourtney! I'm glad you like it. And yes, paying first is good. :-)
Beautiful--congrats!
Thank you Tracy!!
LOVE the cover and the blurb, Rae Ann! I can't wait to share this story with my daughter - 8 years old, but she reads above grade level and I'm sure she'll enjoy it.
Keep me posted on the release date - I'll definitely pick up a copy!
Thank you Dana! I will keep you posted.
Love the cover, Rae Ann! Sounds like a great read--so excited for you!
Love it, Rae Ann! The old-timey feel is great, and I like the contrast in the two boys' outfits. And I second what Dana said -- great blurb!
Thank you Colette!!
Thank you Caryn! I like the contrast in their clothing, too. :-)
Such a cool cover photo! Your photographer's choice of sepia tones for the ghost contrasts well with the blue hoodie to make your main character pop! I can't wait to read this book!
Great cover, Rae Ann and great blurb too.
Thank you Genetta! I really like the way the ghost is fading out on the cover. I'm glad you like it too!
Thank you Terri! I'm glad you like it.
